Air Duct Cleaning Company FAQ
The frequency of cleaning depends on several factors, not the least of which is the preference of the homeowner. Some of the things that may lead a homeowner to consider more frequent residential air duct cleaning include:
- Allergies or Asthma: If someone in the household suffers from allergies or asthma, cleaner air ducts can help reduce allergens and improve air quality.
- Pets: Homes with pets often have higher levels of pet hair and dander, which can accumulate in the air ducts and necessitate more frequent cleaning.
- Renovations or Construction: After any home renovation or construction project, dust and debris can find their way into the air ducts, making cleaning necessary.
- High Energy Bills: Clogged ducts can cause the HVAC system to work harder, leading to higher energy bills. Cleaning the ducts can improve system efficiency.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems have been shown to collect a variety of contaminants such as mold, fungi, bacteria and very small particles of dust that have the potential to affect overall.
The time it takes to clean an HVAC system depends on several things, such as the size of the home, the number of AC systems, how long since the last cleaning and the amount of contamination, and the number of our tech’s that will be on site.
Our technicians always take photos inside your ductwork before starting the job. When complete, we go back and take pictures of all the same areas inside the ducts, both to check our own work and so you can clearly see the difference.
The fact is that indoor air is often several times worse than outdoor air, and part of the reason for this is that dust, pollen, germs, and other contaminants can get lodged inside the air ducts. Removing all of these contaminants will not only improve your indoor air quality but will also help to increase your system efficiency and extend the life of the equipment.
Yes! We continue to carry NADCA certification and we also have certified Air Systems Cleaning Specialists that adhere to the standards set by NADCA. You can be assured that your HVAC system will be properly cleaned.
Just because your home is newly constructed doesn't mean that your air ducts are clean. New homes likely have more construction dust and other debris than most other homes. Cleaning the air ducts in a brand-new home is a very smart idea before using the HVAC system.
Several signs can indicate that you should have your air ducts cleaned. If you have never had your air ducts cleaned, or it has been more than five years since it has been done, you are due for a cleaning. If you are finding that you are dusting much more frequently, you or your family are coughing or sneezing more often, you have a musty smell whenever you run your HVAC system, or you see dust and dirt coming out of the vents, these are all indications that you need an air duct cleaning.
Make sure that all members of the family know when the cleaning is happening. Clear household items away from all of the vents in the home and have a new filter ready to put in after the cleaning is complete. If there are any issues with access to your air ducts, be sure to let us know. Please also restrain pets to help keep the activity going smoothly.
To clean your air ducts, a vacuum is placed on the system that pulls all of the contaminants out of the system. While this negative pressure is in place, we then use physical agitation devices that dislodge the contaminants and the vacuum pulls it all out of your HVAC system.
The following items are a great way to narrow down the potential contractors:
- Are they a member of NADCA
- Have they been in business for several years
- Do they have a license number and are they insured
- Will they provide proof of the air duct cleaning
- Get references from them as well
Many times is ideal to have your air ducts cleaned. When you first move into your home, whether it was newly constructed or it is a new-to-you home; after you do any remodeling or reconstruction; if it has been more than 5 years since the last cleaning; or if you detect signs of mold in your air ducts. Spring and fall are the best times of the year to schedule a cleaning.
We have invested in technology like robots that help us to reach all parts of your home's ductwork. They can go where our other tools just can't reach and this means that we can get to all parts of your HVAC system.
With the use of our robotics, we can often find areas of the ductwork that require attention, from rusting to other issues. When we find these issues we will bring them to your attention so that you can have them taken care of.
